Police Hunt Man Over Brutal Murder of Partner in Rukungiri

The Rukungiri District Police are actively searching for a man suspected of fatally attacking his partner in a brutal incident at Buhimba Sub-County.

ASP Maate Elly, Police PRO for Kigezi identified the suspect as Amoni Gumisiriza, a resident of Kagando Cell, Kabingo Parish.

Gumisiriza, allegedly attacked Evalyn Tusiime, 46, a resident of Kigariko Cell, with a panga at her home. Tusiime, with whom Gumisiriza had been cohabiting for the past five years, succumbed to her injuries upon arrival at Nyakibale Hospital.

Police reports indicate that the couple had recently developed disagreements, prompting Tusiime to report threats to her life to the area chairperson.

On October 20, 2025, at 8:00 pm, Gumisiriza reportedly assaulted Tusiime while she was having supper, inflicting deep cuts on her head, arm, and shoulder. Her cries for help drew residents, including Area Chairperson Mr Mugurura Jastus, who rushed her to the hospital.

Maate says that the scene of the crime was visited, documented, and processed by police. The body was conveyed to Nyakibale Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem.

Investigations are ongoing as authorities continue to search for the suspect. Police urged anyone with information on Gumisiriza’s whereabouts to come forward.
