Police hunt for unknown people who killed 25-year-old man in Lira

Statement on suspected murder in Lira-City West Division

The police in Lira-City West Division are investigating the suspected murder of Opio Emmanuel who was discovered dead in Jinja camp B cell.

According to SP Patrick Jimmy Okema PRO-North Kyoga they received a report on Thursday 8th Dec 2022 at about midnight that Opio had been beaten to death by unknown people and his body dumped within Jinja camp B Cell Lira-City.

A case was registered at Lira-City West Division Police Headquarters and the officers visited the scene of the crime where the body was recovered and conveyed to Lira Regional Referral Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem.

Statements have also been recorded from some relevant witnesses and blood samples picked for analysis by GAL.

Okema says that so far no arrest has been made yet, but he appealed to members of the public who may be having any information which can support the investigation to quietly share with the police.
