Police Hunt for Missing Colleague in Mbarara Security Guard Shooting Case

Police in Mbarara City North Division are investigating a case of murder by shooting involving Mwetise Justus, a security guard attached to Sting Private Security Company, who was stationed at the premises of Ankole Farmers’ SACCO.

According to reports, on 19th January 2025, at approximately 3:30 pm, police in Biharwe received information about a lifeless body discovered at the offices of Ankole Farmers’ SACCO in Biharwe. The deceased was found seated in a chair with a gun strapped to his chest, in a pool of blood.

SP Kasasira Samson, the PRO for Rwizi, stated that police officers responded to the scene and confirmed that Mwetise Justus had passed away. However, his colleague, identified as Nayebare Alex, also attached to Sting Private Security Company, was missing from the scene.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Nayebare Alex had signed out the firearm found on the deceased’s body. After completing his duties, Alex reportedly returned to their residence in Katete, Mbarara City South, and informed another colleague preparing for duty that his mother had passed away. He then left the area in a hurry.

The motive for the shooting has not yet been established, and no property was reported missing from the SACCO offices.

The body of the deceased was transported to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination. Kasasira added that officers processed the scene and recovered the suspected murder weapon.

Efforts are underway to locate Nayebare Alex, who is being sought to assist in the ongoing investigation.
