Police Hunt for Driver After Fatal Bushenyi Road Accident in Bushenyi
The Traffic Police in Bushenyi District are investigating a fatal road crash that claimed two lives on the night of October 6, 2025, at Kitwe Trading Centre along the Bushenyi–Mbarara highway.
SP Tayebwa Apollo, the PRO for Greater Bushenyi, says the accident occurred at around 11:00 p.m. and involved a Canter truck, registration number UBB 270E, and a Bajaj motorcycle, registration number UDY 639L.
The collision resulted in the deaths of Twesigye Abel and Tumwesigye Simon, both residents of Kainamo Village, Ibaare Sub-county in Bushenyi District.
Preliminary findings indicate that the Canter, which was heading towards Mbarara, swerved to the right side of the road to avoid a pothole, colliding head-on with the oncoming motorcycle. The impact caused the truck to overturn, crushing the two riders who died instantly.
The driver of the Canter is reported to have fled the scene and remains unidentified and at large. “Police have launched a manhunt to arrest the suspect,” says Tayebwa.
Police officers responded to the scene, and the bodies of the deceased were conveyed to Kitagata Hospital for post-mortem examination. Both the truck and motorcycle have been towed to Bushenyi Police Station pending further investigations.
In a statement, Tayebwa urged the public to volunteer any information that may help in tracing the driver and called on all road users to observe traffic regulations and safety precautions to prevent similar tragedies.
“We appeal to anyone with information that can assist in the ongoing investigation to come forward,” SP Tayebwa said, adding that police will keep the public informed of any new developments.
