Police Hunt for Driver After Fatal Accident Claims Officer’s Life

Mityana police are searching for a driver responsible for an accident that resulted in the death of a police officer.

The deceased has been identified as IP Namanya Nelson, a 48-year-old officer in charge of Kisita FFU Detachment and a resident of Kisita Barracks in Kasanda District.

According to Racheal Kawala, the Wamala Police Region PRO, the accident occurred on March 6, 2025, at approximately 8:00 PM at Buswabulongo along the Mityana-Mubende Road. It involved a Renault truck (registration number UBJ 394S/UAD 535Q), driven by an unidentified individual, and a Yamaha motorcycle (registration number UP 8016) ridden by IP Namanya.

Preliminary findings suggest that the Renault truck, which is white and blue, experienced a mechanical failure and broke down at Buswabulongo while en route to Mubende. The driver parked it on the side of the road without placing any warning signs to alert other motorists.

At around 8:00 PM, IP Namanya, who was riding his motorcycle, failed to notice the stationary truck and collided with its rear end, sustaining critical injuries. He was rushed to Mityana Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Kawala stated that the suspected cause of the accident was the careless and inconsiderate parking by the truck driver. Police are actively working to identify and apprehend him.

She urged motorists to always carry reflective warning triangles to alert other road users in the event of a breakdown.
