Police Hunt Father Accused of Killing 11-Month-Old Baby in Domestic Violence Incident

Police in Rukiga District have launched a manhunt for a man accused of murdering his 11-month-old daughter, Ainomigisha Obvious, in a brutal domestic violence incident on Thursday afternoon.

According to ASP Elly Maate, the police spokesperson for Kigezi Region, the incident occurred on November 13, 2025, at about 4:00 p.m. in Nyakasa Cell, Bucundura Parish, Kashambya Sub-county. The suspect, Boaz Tuhirirwe, a lumberer and the biological father of the deceased, allegedly assaulted his wife, Atuhire Allen, while she carried the baby on her back.

Preliminary reports indicate that Tuhirirwe had been away from home for three months. Upon returning, he reportedly found his wife taking a cow to graze and followed her while wielding a stick. He allegedly began beating her, striking her on the back despite the child being tied to her. In the process, the baby was hit in the face and died instantly.

A distraught Atuhire removed the lifeless child from her back as the suspect rushed the baby to a nearby clinic, where medical personnel confirmed the child was already dead. Tuhirirwe then fled the scene and remains at large.

Police visited and examined the scene, documented evidence, and recorded statements from witnesses. The baby’s body is yet to be taken for a postmortem examination to guide further investigations.

Maate says that efforts are being made to track down the suspect so he can be charged accordingly. He added that inquiries are underway to establish the circumstances that led to the assault on the mother.

Police have condemned the incident as a disturbing act of domestic violence and urged the public to support efforts to bring the suspect to justice.
