Police Disperse Clashes Between Balimwezo and Alien Skin Supporters Near NUP Headquarters

Security forces on Thursday intervened to quell clashes between supporters of Kampala Lord Mayor aspirant Hon. Balimwezo Ronald and those of musician-turned-politician Alien Skin.

The confrontation erupted around noon on September 4, 2025, along the road leading to the National Unity Platform (NUP) headquarters in Makerere-Kavule. Balimwezo’s supporters were marching to the party offices shortly after his nomination when they encountered a rival group, sparking a standoff.

According to police, the situation escalated as NUP supporters began throwing stones, forcing security personnel to deploy tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the crowds. The clash also caused a temporary traffic jam in the area.

Five individuals were arrested and detained at Wandegeya Police Station. They include Nyanzi Yasin, Kawese Tonny, Lukenge Sharif, Nsubuga James, and Mwondha Mukisa.

By evening, police had restored calm, but authorities warned that heightened vigilance and proactive engagement will be necessary as political activities intensify ahead of next year’s elections.

SSP P. Onyango confirmed the arrests and said investigations are ongoing.
