Police Crack Down on Crime in Kampala, Over 80 Suspects Arrested

Police in the Kampala Metropolitan area have conducted a series of operations across multiple divisions, resulting in the arrest of several suspects linked to criminal activities.

According to ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, an 18-year-old suspect identified as Arinaitwe Moses was arrested by officers from Yesu Amala Police Station during a patrol in Nansana Municipality, Wakiso District. The suspect was found in possession of a panga, believed to have been intended for use in criminal acts.

In a separate operation conducted on April 7, 2026, in the areas of Biwologoma, Good Shade, Clock Tower, and Arua Park, a total of 43 suspects were arrested for allegedly engaging in criminal activities targeting members of the public. The suspects are currently detained at Central Police Station (CPS) Kampala and are expected to be arraigned in court today.

Additionally, patrol officers from CPS Kampala intercepted and arrested a suspected motorcycle phone snatcher who was found in possession of multiple smartphones. The suspect reportedly confessed to being part of a criminal racket operating within the city.

In Najjera, Kira Municipality, a joint operation by the Police and the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) led to the arrest of three suspects linked to the illegal cultivation and supply of marijuana.

Another operation in Kamwokya by the Kira Road Police Division resulted in the arrest of 35 suspects believed to have been operating in known crime hotspots.

Meanwhile, in Kabalagala, police arrested a wanted suspect, Emma Muteso, who is linked to cases of aggravated robbery and murder. Efforts to apprehend his accomplices are ongoing. All suspects remain in custody pending further investigations and court proceedings. Owoyesigyire added that the Kampala Metropolitan Police will continue conducting operations aimed at deterring criminal activity and ensuring public safety.
