Police Constable arrested for shooting, injuring two people in Kawanda
The police have arrested one of their own officers attached to the Environmental police Protection Unit for opening fire, injuring two people following an altercation with a woman in Kawanda in Wakiso district.
According to Luke Owoyesigyire the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police spokesperson, the suspect is Police constable Julius Nagaba who was guarding SGS Offices in Kawanda.
Trouble started when Nagaba got involved in an altercation with Catherine Twongirwe, a resident of Watuba who was been supplying food at the SGS offices on Monday afternoon.
The scene was visited by detectives from Kawempe Police station and it is reported that during the altercation, Nagaba discharged a bullet that injured Dan Kibuka and Joseph Ssemanda who were responding to an alarm made by Twongire inside the premises.
The victims were rushed to Mulago National Referral Hospital in critical condition. The detectives immediately disarmed the constable and shielded him from angry members of the public who had wanted to lynch him.
Twongirwe told police that trouble started after she rejected Nagaba’s sexual advances. He had allegedly been asking her for a relationship, which she rejected.
Twongirwe says that when she brought food today, he decided to lock her inside his booth at the gate and she made an alarm that attracted people in the neighborhood to come to her rescue.
Detectives have recovered the gun from the scene and they are currently waiting for Nagaba to recover so that he can record a statement as investigations continue to ascertain what happened.
