Police Arrest Two Suspects with Panga During Night Patrol in Kireka Biira
Kampala Metropolitan Police have arrested two suspects during a night patrol in Kireka Biira, following the discovery of a brand-new sharp panga in their possession.
According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, SSP Patrick Onyango, the joint security team comprising Police, UPDF, and local vigilantes conducted the operation at around 2:00 a.m. on November 5, 2025, near Oilcom Petrol Station.
During the patrol, officers intercepted Lumu Jovan, who was found carrying a new, sharp panga. Upon interrogation, Lumu revealed that he and two others had been transported from Nansana to Kireka Biira by a motorcycle rider identified as Nicholas Kasozi Mawanda.
The motorcycle, registration number UMA 201DQ, reportedly developed a flat tyre, after which the rider temporarily left to repair it. Acting on this information, the patrollers tracked down Mawanda and arrested him along with the motorcycle.
Both suspects are currently detained at Bulenga Police Station on charges of possession of a dangerous weapon, while further investigations are underway to identify and apprehend the remaining accomplices.
The recovered panga and motorcycle have been secured as exhibits at the police station.
“The suspects are being interrogated to establish the motive and identify other members of their group,” said Onyango, assuring residents that security operations will continue to ensure public safety.
