Police arrest prime suspect in brutal murder of mother and daughter over land dispute
Security forces have finally arrested a prime suspect in the brutal murder of Martina Lopido, 68, and her daughter Anna Mary Nakoru, 38, who was also a councillor for the North division in Moroto municipality.
The suspect, identified as Mark Losike, was apprehended on 1st May 2023 in Nabokat village, Nangorit parish, Nadunget Sub County, Moroto District, following intelligence networks.
The killings took place on 27th April 2023 in Kanakomol village, Naitakwai Parish, Nadunget Subcounty, Moroto District, allegedly over a land dispute.
The suspect, who is also a nephew of the family, reportedly wanted a nine-acre piece of land divided so that he could claim his portion. However, the family rejected the proposal, and the matter ended up in court. The day before the hearing, Losike allegedly attacked the two with a spear, killing them instantly.
Michael Longole, the Ag. PRO of Mt. Moroto, confirmed that the suspect was arrested with the spear used in the attack. He also expressed his gratitude to the general community for their vigilance and timely reporting of the criminal, promising continued cooperation to fight criminality.
Longole applauded the security personnel who participated in the operation for their professional knowledge exhibited during the arrest of the suspect.
Losike and others will appear in court to answer charges of murder.
