Police Arrest Five in Mukono Robbery Crackdown
The Uganda Police Force has arrested five suspects in connection with a string of robberies in the Mukono region, following an intelligence-led operation aided by CCTV footage from Mukono Central Police Station.
The arrested suspects have been identified as:
Batambuze David, 32, a driver at Bunamwaya taxi stage
Mulira Ronald, 30, resident of Natete
Serukenya Abdul, 40, resident of Nyejje-Goma, Mukono District
Ssemanda Shafiq, 28, resident of Kibiri-Busabala
Ainambabazi Tasha, 20, a bar attendant at Namasuba
SSP Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson said the suspects were intercepted in a Toyota Hiace, registration number UBJ 343H, which has since been impounded. During the operation, seven mobile phones believed to have been stolen were recovered and exhibited as evidence.
However, four other suspects managed to escape. They were identified only by their first names as Tifu (the driver), Caros, Ashiraf, and Ibra.
According to Onyango, investigations are ongoing to track down the fugitives and dismantle the wider network linked to the robberies.
“This operation is part of a broader effort to combat crime in the Mukono region and ensure public safety,” Onyango said.
