Police Arrest 75 in Coordinated Operations Across Kampala Metropolitan Area
Police in the Kampala Metropolitan area have conducted a series of coordinated operations between 15th and 17th March 2026 across several locations, including Mutungo Zone 4, Nasuti in Mukono, Mbuya I Parish (covering Kago, Katoogo, Kalerwe, Buyinja, Centre Zone and Kinawataka), Kireku Railway Zone, Kireku Main Zone, Bweyogerere Central Zone, and Wabigalo Parish.
According to ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Kampala Metropolitan Police, the operations targeted identified crime-prone areas believed to harbour suspects involved in robbery, burglary, theft, and the sale and consumption of narcotic substances.
A total of 75 suspects were arrested and charged with offences including possession of narcotic substances and public nuisance. Several exhibits were also recovered during the operations.
During the operation in Mbuya I Parish, police impounded seven motorcycles from a garage suspected of altering and reconditioning motorcycle parts.
Among the impounded motorcycles were two without number plates, two with concealed number plates, and three with suspected fake number plates. The motorcycles are currently undergoing verification as investigations continue into possible links to criminal activities.
In a separate incident at Masooli Cell in Kasangati, a suspected thief armed with a panga was lynched by a mob after he allegedly attempted to target poultry farms together with accomplices.
Police processed the scene, and investigations into the mob action have since commenced.
Owoyesigyire said all suspects are currently being held at their respective police stations pending screening and prosecution. Police have pledged to continue conducting similar operations to enhance public safety and reduce crime in the metropolitan area.
