Police Arrest 47 in Night Crackdown on Crime Hotspots in KMP East

Officers from Kampala Metropolitan Police East have arrested 47 suspects following a series of coordinated operations conducted on the night of 30 March 2026 in Butabika (Jinja Road Division), Kamwokya (Kira Road Policing Area), and Bweyogerere in Kira Division.

The operations, led by respective Division Police Commanders and supported by the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and local leaders, targeted identified black spots believed to harbour criminals involved in drug abuse and the robbery of pedestrians.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, Luke Owoyesigyire, a total of 47 suspects were apprehended during the crackdown. Several exhibits, including suspected narcotic substances, were recovered.

All suspects are currently being held at various police stations and have been charged with offences such as public nuisance and possession of narcotic substances, pending prosecution.

Owoyesigyire noted that the operations were successful and reaffirmed the police’s commitment to sustaining intelligence-led efforts to combat crime and enhance public safety across the Kampala Metropolitan area.
