Police Arrest 137 Suspects in Anti-Crime Operations Across Kampala Metropolitan Area
Police under Kira Road Division, Kira Division, and Mukono carried out a series of operations in Kamwokya, Kyanja, Kisaasi, Kitifumba–Shimoni, Kira Taxi Park, Mbalwa–Namugongo, and Wantoni in Mukono District, arresting 28 suspects.
According to ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, the operations targeted criminal gangs accused of waylaying and robbing members of the public, smoking suspected narcotics in identified black spots, and committing related offences.
Among the 28 suspects arrested are individuals linked to a gang rape case in Mbalwa. Police recovered several exhibits, including suspected narcotics, suspected stolen mobile phones, sharp objects believed to have been used in robberies, and a computer allegedly used to crack mobile phone passwords.
Owoyesigyire said the suspects are currently detained at various police stations pending completion of investigations and prosecution. He added that police will continue operations in the affected areas to curb crime and maintain public safety.
In a related development, officers under KMP South conducted coordinated disruptive operations on February 23 and 24, 2026, in Mukwano Roundabout, the Railway Line and 6th Street under Kabalagala Police Division; Zana Parish in Makindye-Ssabagabo under Katwe Police Division; Valley Zone in Salaama; and Nakasozi, Kimbejja, Magwa-Mpangala, Kisozi, Nakiragala, Nagalabi and Sumba under Nsangi Police Division.
Owoyesigyire said the operations targeted identified crime hotspots, criminal planning points, and locations associated with narcotics abuse, mugging, simple robberies, and motorcycle theft.
A total of 109 suspects were arrested across the divisions and are currently in custody pending screening and court proceedings. Police also recovered several motorcycles and number plates suspected of being linked to theft.
