Police Arrest 10 Suspected Gang Members in Kira Night Operation

Police in Kira Division, together with other security agencies under the Kampala Metropolitan Area command, conducted a night operation in Buwate–Najjera, Kira Municipality, on 29 January 2026 at about 10:00pm aimed at disrupting criminal gangs operating in the area.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala, ten suspects were arrested after they were found allegedly smoking suspected narcotic substances inside a wooden structure. Police recovered exhibits including rolled sticks and powdered leaves believed to be narcotics.

Preliminary investigations indicate that members of the group would first smoke narcotics before waylaying pedestrians and pelting stones at moving vehicles.

Kawala said the suspects are currently in police custody pending arraignment in court on charges of possession of narcotic drugs, reportedly opium.

She added that similar operations will continue before, during and after the election period to enhance public safety and security.
