Over 70 Suspects Arrested in Kampala Police Operations Targeting Narcotics and Robbery
The Police in the Kampala Metropolitan Area have intensified intelligence-led disruptive operations and community engagements aimed at combating rising criminal activities and restoring public order in known black spots across the region.
ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy PRO, Kampala Metropolitan Police, says that the ongoing efforts target criminal networks involved in narcotic abuse, robberies, and other unlawful acts that threaten community safety.
On 30th October 2025, at around 2:00 a.m., police conducted an intelligence-led operation in areas under Wamala Police Post in Nansana Division, Wakiso District, following persistent reports of illegal possession and abuse of narcotic substances. Eight suspects were arrested from Wamala Kasumba, Karanzi, Kinyarwanda, and Tabba sub-zones and were found in possession of suspected narcotic substances. They are currently pending prosecution.
Similarly, on 31st October 2025, between 12:30 a.m. and 4:00 a.m., another operation was conducted in Thailand, Katogo, and Kago areas of Kinawataka, Mbuya Parish, Nakawa Division, where sixteen suspects were arrested from known criminal hideouts. They face charges related to unlawful possession of suspected narcotic substances and public nuisance.
In Old Kampala Division, territorial police carried out two successful operations in Nakulabye and Kisenyi, targeting thugs involved in simple robberies and narcotic use. A total of 48 suspects were arrested, 24 from each area, and several exhibits, including suspected narcotic substances and dangerous weapons, were recovered. The suspects are undergoing screening and will be arraigned in court upon completion of investigations.
Beyond enforcement, Owoyesigyire says that police have intensified community policing efforts to prevent crime before it occurs. On 29th October 2025, a community engagement drive was held in Bulabira Kalitunsi, Najjera, focusing on neighbourhood watch, crime prevention, domestic violence, vigilance, and electoral offences. Residents were sensitised on how to collaborate with the Police through timely information sharing and community vigilance.
He commended members of the public and local leaders for their continued cooperation, noting that their active participation is vital to maintaining peace and security.
He further urged the public to remain vigilant, share credible intelligence, and continue working closely with law enforcement to ensure the safety of all communities.
