Over 3,100 Suspects Taken to Court as Police Nab Two Panga Weilding Men in Kabowa

The Uganda Police Force has arraigned more than 3,000 suspects in court in February alone as part of intensified operations aimed at curbing crime and drug-related offenses, Police Public Relations Officer CP Kituuma Rusoke has said.

Addressing the weekly security press briefing, Rusoke noted that ongoing enforcement operations across the country have continued to yield significant results. By last Friday, police had taken over 2,056 suspects to court. However, the cumulative number for the month of February has since risen to 3,132 suspects, with more operations still underway.

He insisted that fighting crime requires a collective effort between law enforcement agencies and the public.

In a separate incident, police in the Kampala Metropolitan area arrested two suspects found in possession of a panga near a Total petrol station in Kabowa on February 26.

According to CP Rusoke, the arrests followed a timely alert from a private security officer. He narrated to the media that on February 26th, at around 9 p.m., a vehicle, registration number UBG 514, approached the petrol station, turned back, and returned 10 minutes later. The vehicle reportedly dropped off two men opposite the station before driving away.

The operations manager of a security company in the vicinity became suspicious after noticing the two men loitering and allegedly carrying a panga. He immediately reported the matter to police officers deployed at the Kabowa traffic lights.

Officers responded promptly and arrested the suspects, recovering the panga from their possession. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
