Over 150 Suspects Nabbed in Kampala Metropolitan Crime Operations

Police in the Kampala Metropolitan area conducted a series of coordinated disruptive operations on the night of 9 March 2026 across several policing divisions within the region.

According to ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, the operations targeted identified crime hotspots and black spots where criminal elements reportedly gather to smoke narcotic substances, gamble, and plan criminal activities such as phone snatching, burglaries, and robberies.

The operations were jointly carried out by Police with support from the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and were supervised by various Divisional Police Commanders and Operations Commanders within their respective jurisdictions.

Areas covered during the operations included Kira, Kajjansi, Wandegeya, Kakiri, Matugga, Kira Road, and the Central Business District under CPS Kampala, among others.

More than 150 suspects were arrested from various black spots during the operations. Police also recovered several exhibits, including marijuana, suspected narcotic substances, knives, playing cards, and other items believed to be used in criminal activities.

Owoyesigyire said several cases have been opened at the respective police stations, and the suspects are currently undergoing screening, statement recording, and processing for court.

Preliminary findings indicate that many of the suspects frequent these locations where they engage in narcotics use and gambling before participating in criminal acts targeting unsuspecting members of the public.

He added that Police will continue conducting disruptive operations across the metropolitan area to deter criminal activity and enhance public safety.

Owoyesigyire further encouraged members of the public to share information with the Police to help identify and apprehend criminal elements within their communities.
