Only O-Level Graduates Eligible for Uganda Prisons Warder Jobs
Uganda Prisons Service has advised Degree and Diploma holders not to apply for the recently announced jobs, as these positions are intended for S.4 certificate holders. This was stated by Senior Commissioner of Prisons Frank Baine, the PRO of Uganda Prisons Service, during the weekly security press briefing at Naguru Police Headquarters on Monday morning. Recently, UPS advertised 402 positions for prison warders and wardresses.
According to Baine, all applicants must be physically capable of completing nine months of intensive training. He warned that anyone found presenting fraudulent academic documents will be arrested and referred to the relevant authorities.
Eligible candidates must be Ugandan citizens aged between 18 and 30 years, which must be verified by a National Identification Card. Candidates must have an O-Level certificate with at least four credits (B, C, or D), including one in English, and a pass (D) in Mathematics.
This B or C grading applies only to those under the new lower secondary curriculum. Moreover, candidates should demonstrate good conduct and have no criminal records.
“Interested candidates should submit handwritten applications addressed to the Secretary of the Prisons Council. Applications must be delivered to the nearest Prison Unit or one of the 19 Regional Prisons Headquarters: South Eastern (Jinja), Iganga (Iganga), East Central (Mukono), Mid-Eastern (Soroti), Eastern (Mbale), North Eastern (Moroto), Kampala Extra (Luzira), or Central Region (Security House near Prisons Headquarters), North Central (Luwero), Mid-Western (Masindi), Southern (Masaka), Kooki (Lyantonde), North Western (Arua), Mid Northern (Lira), Northern (Gulu), South Western (Mbarara), Western (Fort Portal), Mel Central (Mubende), or Kigezi (Kabale), within the area no later than 14th March 2025,” Baine stated.
He further added that applications must include three (03) photocopies of certificates/results and three (03) photocopies of the National Identity Card, as well as three (03) recent passport-sized photographs and a letter of recommendation from the LC I Chairperson of the applicant’s village, endorsed by the LC II and LC III Chairpersons of the district of origin.
Baine noted that all stages of the recruitment process are free of charge and that applicants must not pay any money to anyone for any service during the exercise.
