One killed, another injured as assailants rob mobile money vendor of UGX72 million
The Jinja Road Police have launched an investigation into an incident of aggravated robbery and murder that happened on the evening of June 30, 2023, in Luzira Stage 7 Zone, Nakawa Division at 21:30 hours.
Patrick Onyango the PRO KMP told journalists that two armed assailants targeted Bahati Aggrey and Nyamukulu Annah, who were in the process of closing their Mobile Money outlet.
It is reported that the criminals approached the victims and fired some gunshots in the air causing panic. In the process, Bahati managed to escape, leaving Nyamukulu trapped inside the shop.
The thugs then broke into the shop and made off with a staggering sum of UGX 72,000,000 (Seventy-two million shillings).
However, as they were getting away, members of the public attempted to intervene, forcing the assailants to shoot aimlessly, causing the death of Ssenyondo Richard and severely injuring Nakigudde Betty.
The police acted fast and were able to arrest two suspects, although one managed to evade capture. They also recovered an AK-47 at the scene, which will serve as evidence in the case.
The officers from the Kampala Metropolitan Police East and Jinja Road Police Division also recorded statements from relevant witnesses.
The deceased has been identified is Ssenyondo Richard, a 38-year-old businessperson residing in Mutungo, Nakawa Division. His body has been conveyed to the City Mortuary in Mulago for postmortem examination.
Onyango adds that the injured victim, Nakigudde Betty is currently receiving medical treatment for her wounds.
