One Dead, Two Injured in Lira-City Shooting
Police in Lira-City East Division are searching for unknown individuals who shot and killed one person while injuring two others.
The incident occurred on February 24, 2025, at around 11:30 PM when unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire at a container pork joint near Corner Boroboro Center along the Lira-Soroti highway.
According to PJ Okema, PRO-North Kyoga, preliminary investigations indicate that three people were shot. Akello Helen, a 28-year-old resident of Barlwala Cell in Angetanget Ward, was pronounced dead upon arrival at Lira Regional Referral Hospital.
Two other victims, Vivian Ayuru and Auma Marcy, were injured and are receiving medical treatment.
Okema stated that the police responded promptly to the crime scene, led by the DPC Lira-City East Division, and have since examined and documented the area.
The investigation is ongoing, but no suspects have been identified yet.
“We urge anyone with information about the perpetrators to come forward and share it with the police,” said Okema.
