One Arrested as Police Probe Series of Robberies in Bukoto
Police have arrested one suspect and are pursuing others following a coordinated response involving Ntinda and Kiwatule Police Stations after three aggravated robbery incidents were reported on 06 January 2026 within Nsimbiziwome and Kigowa One, Bukoto Two Parish, Nakawa Division.
The first incident occurred at around 21:00 hours in Nsimbiziwome, where Kasasa Patrick, a teacher, was attacked by a gang of thugs riding motorcycles and robbed of several items. The stolen property included a Samsung Galaxy phone, a second-generation Chromebook, a Dell laptop, and a Galaxy tablet, all valued at approximately UGX 4 million.
Shortly thereafter, at about 21:50 hours, two additional robberies were reported in Kigowa along Valley Road. Namaganda Shadia, a businesswoman, was robbed of an iPhone 11 Pro Max, an Itel button phone, her National ID, and cash, all valued at about UGX 3.5 million. In a separate incident, Musobya Bosco, a driver, was robbed of a Samsung Galaxy phone, a wallet containing a driving permit and National ID, and cash, valued at approximately UGX 420,000.
According to ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer of Kampala Metropolitan Police, officers responded promptly by visiting and documenting all scenes of crime. Police later conducted a chase along the Northern Bypass after being alerted by members of the public.
One suspect, identified as Joseph Wataba, was intercepted after allegedly attempting to attack officers with a panga. He was arrested and taken to Mulago Hospital for medical attention, pending prosecution.
During the operation, police recovered one motorcycle (registration number UMA 582HF), a panga, and a Galaxy tablet linked to the robberies. Other suspects managed to escape. Investigations are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspects and recover additional stolen property.
