NUP, ANT Politicians Visit Luzira Prison to Check on Dr. Kizza Besigye

A team of politicians from the National Unity Platform (NUP) and their counterparts from the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) visited Luzira Upper Prison on Monday morning, where four-time presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye is being held along with other political figures.

Besigye was arrested in November 2024 along with Hajj Obed Lutale Kamulegeya in Nairobi, Kenya, and later sent to Luzira by the General Court Martial.

Today, a team led by NUP Party President Robert Kyagulanyi, Leader of the Opposition Hon. Joel Ssenyonyi, his predecessor Hon. Winnie Kiiza, NUP Secretary-General Rubongoya Lewis, and Alice Alaso visited Luzira in the hope of seeing Dr Besigye.

Unfortunately, Kyagulanyi stated that they were unable to see him as he was weak. He further revealed that, contrary to claims by Dr Chris Baryomunsi, the Minister for ICT and National Guidance, who said he had spoken to Besigye, the latter denied such an encounter.

However, according to a statement by Dr Baryomunsi, he did speak to Dr Besigye and advised him to resume eating.

Meanwhile, Kyagulanyi stated that they had convened as the Forces of Change to strategize on ways to pressure the government into releasing their colleagues.

Former Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Hon Winnie Kiiza explained that the government is illegally holding Dr Besigye at Luzira, yet he should be at the hospital.
