NRM throws mega fete for supporters in Serere County Parliamentary by-election
The ruling National Resistance Movement- NRM party has thrown a mega feast for voters in Ocaapa Town Council in Serere district ahead of Thursday polls.
The feast that saw the voters enjoy free sodas and energy drinks, pilao, and the meat was prepared ahead of the President, Yoweri Museveni’s visit to campaign for Phillip Oucor, the NRM candidate for the Serere county parliamentary by-election.
Residents in Ocaapa and Kyere Town Councils, Kyere and Kateta sub-counties invited to the Ocaapa venue started feasting as early as 6:00 am on Tuesday.
President Yoweri Museveni who arrived at around 2:00 pm first went through Ocaapa, the last campaign venue of NRM-leaning candidate, Martin Onguruco before proceeding to Serere Town Council for another rally.
Sam Otaala, one of the campaign managers of Oucor says that the feast was meant to enable residents who showed up to attend the President’s rally to be comfortable. He adds that the food initiative is also part of wooing the voters to support and vote for their flag bearer on Thursday.
According to Capt. John Emily Otekat, the former Serere County MP and Uganda Wildlife Authority Board member, the food was prepared as a compliment to the people of Serere for their support to the ruling party. He said the feasting will continue until voting day.
Today is the final campaigning day for candidates in the Serere County by-election.
Emmanuel Eratu from FDC is campaigning in Atiira sub-county. Alice Alaso of ANT is in Kyere Town Council and Kyere Sub County while Emmanuel Omoding and Martin Onguruco- both independent NRM leaning candidates are campaigning in Kateta Sub County and Ocaapa Town Council respectively.
