NEMA Showcases Environmental Services at Namunkekera Industrial Park Trade Show

Kapeeka – The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has participated in the second Namunkekera-Liao Shen Industrial Park Trade Show and Bazaar 2025, held in Kapeeka, Nakaseke District, with a strong call to Ugandans to embrace and support environmental services offered by the Authority.

The three-day event, which runs until Saturday, August 30, 2025, was officially opened by the Ssabaddu of Bulemeezi Mr. John Kikomeko. He urged communities around the industrial park to seize available opportunities to market their products and improve household incomes.

Representing NEMA at the exhibition, William Lubuulwa, the Senior Public Relations Officer, delivered a message from the Authority’s Executive Director, Dr. Barirega Akankwasah. Dr. Akankwasah reaffirmed NEMA’s commitment to restoring degraded ecosystems, stressing the importance of collective responsibility in safeguarding the environment.

“We shall continue to engage all communities and local leadership to achieve proper environment management,” Dr. Akankwasah said. “As members of the community, we are all responsible for keeping a clean and healthy environment.”

At its stall, NEMA showcased key services and regulatory functions, including guidance on noise permits, pollution control, and waste management licences. Visitors were also educated on the significance of Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs) in development projects. The Authority further reminded the public of its accessibility through its website www.nema.go.ug and email address info@nema.go.ug.

The exhibition also emphasised the National Environment Act, Cap. 181, highlighting that environmental management is not solely the work of government agencies but a shared duty for all citizens.

According to NEMA, participation in such trade shows offers an opportunity to interact with stakeholders directly and to showcase programmes and initiatives that align with the Authority’s mandate.

The trade show, hosted by Namunkekera Agro Processing Limited, has brought together exhibitors from various sectors to promote industrial growth, innovation, and environmental sustainability. President Yoweri Museveni is expected to preside over the closing ceremony on Saturday.
