Nateete Police Arrest Suspect Over Stolen Number Plates
Police in Nateete have arrested a suspect identified as Semuju Steven, 33, a resident of Busega, for his alleged involvement in the theft of motor vehicle number plates.
According to SP Racheal Kawala, the Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP), seven stolen number plates were recovered during the operation. These include: UAH 286S, UA 309BQ, UA 682BZ, UAM 277G, UAN 796B, and UBK 264Y (pair).
It is reported that on the night of 11th February 2026, unknown persons unlawfully entered the compound of Lutamaguzi Patrick in Busega–Kabale, Rubaga Division, Kampala District, and stole the number plate from his vehicle, registration number UAN 796B, a silver Toyota Opa.
In a bizarre twist, the suspect allegedly left behind a contact number (0759-353167) written on the vehicle, which later became a crucial lead in the investigations.
Following his arrest, the suspect reportedly led security agencies to several locations where the stolen number plates had been hidden, including Busega–Kabale, Kiteemu, Kivulu, and Kyengera Town Council in Wakiso District.
The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue and will be charged in court accordingly.
