Man on the run after shooting wife in the eye
A 53-year-old man, Owiny Patrick, also known as Ocaya, a retired soldier and resident of Abim West Cell, Abim district, is on the run after allegedly attempting to murder his 51-year-old wife, Apio Grace, using a bow and arrow on January 24, 2024, at 11 pm.
Reports indicate that on the mentioned date, Owiny and another individual identified as Ongom David were engaged in gambling at the shop owned by the victim, Apio Grace. Owiny reportedly lost all his money to Ongom, leading to a confrontation. In a fit of anger, Owiny started a fight with Ongom, demanding a refund of his lost money. Apio Grace intervened in an attempt to diffuse the situation.
However, Owiny, in a heated moment, grabbed a bow and arrow, initially aiming at Ongom but ultimately turning the weapon towards his wife, shooting her in the right eye. Subsequently, he allegedly robbed Ugx 7 million from Apio’s shop before fleeing the scene.
Following the incident, Apio Grace was quickly transported to Abim hospital and later referred to Lacor hospital for further medical attention. SCP Enanga Fred, the Police Spokesperson, confirmed that Apio is out of danger. However, the arrow caused severe damage to her right eye, penetrating the eye socket and remaining embedded.
SCP Enanga noted the concerning level of violence within domestic settings, urging individuals in vulnerable situations to reach out to the Child and Family Protection Officer at the nearest police station. He assured the public that these officers are trained to provide assistance in such circumstances.
Law enforcement is actively pursuing Owiny Patrick, and anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is urged to contact the authorities promptly.
