Man Charged with Aggravated Homosexuality and Defilement of Boy in Kanungu

The police in Kanungu have arrested a 23-year-old man for the alleged aggravated homosexuality/defilement of a 12-year-old boy. The incident occurred around 5 PM on July 23, 2024, at Tungwa grazing field, Rushaka Parish, Nyamirama Sub County, in Kanungu district.

The victim is a 12-year-old boy and resident of Nyabushoro cell, Rushaka Parish, Nyamirama Sub County, in Kanungu district. The suspect is Ainembabazi Edison, a 23-year-old resident of Mashoko cell, Rushaka Parish, Nyamirama Sub County, in Kanungu district.

According to Maate Elly, the PRO for the Kigezi Region, it is alleged that on July 23, 2024, at about 17:00 hours, the victim was grazing cows at Tungwa on government land, along with two other children identified only as Kosi and Muteta, when the suspect, who had been hiding in the bush, grabbed the victim, undressed, and raped him.

A case of aggravated homosexuality/defilement was registered at Nyamirama Police Station. Police officers visited the crime scene and obtained statements from eyewitnesses. The suspect was arrested and is in police custody.

Maate says inquiries are underway, and upon completion, the suspect will be arraigned before the courts of law.
