Man Arrested Over Fatal Stabbing of Woman in Luwero

The Police in Luwero District have arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 25-year-old businesswoman in Nyimbwa Sub-County.

According to Savannah Regional Police spokesperson ASP S. Twiineamazima, the incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, March 5, 2026, at around 1:00 a.m. in Bajjo Lumansi Village, Bajjo Parish.

The deceased has been identified as Sarah Kabahwezi, also known as Shilat, a resident of the same village. Kabahwezi’s body was discovered by the roadside, partially covered with a towel, with multiple stab wounds across her body.

Twiineamazima said preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect, identified as Gilbert Tumwesigye, 26, a casual worker also known as Rast Niga Bwayi, had been in a relationship with the deceased.

The two reportedly lived under the same roof but occupied separate rented rooms, with Kabahwezi using hers both as a bar and as sleeping quarters.

Police say initial findings suggest that the suspect allegedly saw the deceased in the company of another man, believed to be a boda boda rider, before confronting her a short distance away from the residence, where the fatal stabbing is believed to have occurred.

Police officers responded to the scene, where they documented the evidence and conducted an on-site examination of the body.

The police spokesperson says that a case of murder has since been registered, and statements have been recorded from several witnesses. The suspect was arrested and is currently in police custody as investigations continue.

The body of the deceased has been taken to Luwero General Hospital for a post-mortem examination, as investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident, including reports of prior relationship disputes that had previously involved family intervention.
