Man Arrested After Stabbing Lover to Death in Kyankwanzi

Police in Kyankwanzi District have arrested a 25-year-old man, identified as Nkuruziza Festo, in connection with the murder of a 40-year-old woman, Nyirihabimana Henonia. Both were residents of Lusengejjo Village in Butemba Town Council.

According to the Wamala Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Lameck Kigozi, the suspect had been in an intimate relationship with the deceased. On Monday night, Nkuruziza was reportedly informed that Henonia was socialising with another man at a local bar.

Police allege that the suspect armed himself with a panga and went to the bar, where the other man managed to escape after sustaining injuries to his hands, reportedly leaving behind severed fingers.

An enraged Nkuruziza is then said to have turned on Henonia, stabbing her in the neck. She succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday morning.

Kigozi said both the suspect and the deceased are Rwandan nationals who had been working as casual labourers in Butemba Town Council. The deceased was a mother of three children, none of whom were fathered by the suspect.

He added that investigations into the case are almost complete, and the police file is awaiting perusal by the Resident State Attorney in Kyankwanzi to sanction murder charges against the accused.
