Kanungu Man Killed in Domestic Fight

The Police in Kanungu are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of 51-year-old Ngambeki Spiriano, who was killed following a violent domestic altercation with his estranged wife, Nzabaruntume Dinavance, aged 48, a resident of Group Farm B Cell, Kibimbiri Parish, Kihihi Subcounty in Kanungu District. The incident occurred on 18th November 2025 at around 1400 hours at the suspect’s residence.

Preliminary reports indicate that the couple had previously separated, prompting the deceased to relocate to Kebisoni in Rukungiri District, where he married another woman. The suspect remained in their matrimonial home, where she lived with her young grandchild.

According to Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional PRO, their findings indicate that on the day of the incident, the deceased travelled to Kanungu with his second wife but left her in Kibimbiri Trading Centre before proceeding alone to his former home to check on the suspect. It is alleged that a serious altercation ensued behind the house, during which both parties sustained severe injuries. The deceased succumbed to his wounds at the scene.

After realising that her former husband had died, the suspect reportedly called her son-in-law, Benon, asking him to collect his child. She then attempted to flee. When Benon arrived, he found the deceased lying dead behind the house’s back door. His alarm drew the attention of neighbours who mobilized and apprehended the suspect before handing her over to the police.

Maate says the police responded promptly, processed the scene, and recorded statements from key witnesses. Investigators recovered clothes believed to belong to the deceased from a pit latrine behind the house, suggesting an attempt to tamper with evidence, as the body had been cleaned and redressed.

The deceased’s body was transported to Kihihi Health Center IV for a postmortem examination. The suspect, who had also sustained a deep cut wound to her head during the fight, was taken for medical treatment.

Police inquiries are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the altercation that led to the fatal incident.
