Kabale Man Lynched by Mob Over Alleged Abuse of Father

Police in Kabale District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 23-year-old man, Mutabazi Peter, a resident of Nyarungwe Village, Katokye Parish, Kyanamira Sub-county.

Mutabazi was reportedly lynched by an angry mob on allegations that he had repeatedly mistreated his biological father, identified as Turyamureba John.

According to ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, the incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. on July 9, 2025, at Rubira Trading Centre in Katokye Parish, Kyanamira Sub-county.

“It is alleged that during the night of July 8, 2025, residents apprehended the deceased and beat him to death on claims that he had been assaulting his father and stealing from him,” ASP Maate said.

Police received a report about the incident at around 2:00 a.m. on July 9, and officers responded promptly. The crime scene was visited, documented, and processed. Relevant statements were recorded from witnesses, and a postmortem examination was conducted.

ASP Maate strongly condemned the act of mob justice and urged the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.

“We appeal to the public to avoid acts of lawlessness. Anyone suspected of committing a crime should be reported to the authorities so that lawful procedures can be followed,” he said.

Police have opened a case of murder and have launched investigations to identify and apprehend those responsible for the lynching.
