Kabale Head Teacher Arrested for Denying Pupil Chance to Sit PLE
Police in Kabale District have arrested the head teacher of Rwababa Primary School in Kyanamira Sub-county for allegedly denying a registered Primary Seven candidate the opportunity to sit for his Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE).
The suspect, identified as Drake Kishija, is accused of blocking the pupil from taking his exams because he had not paid a coaching fee of Shs 70,000 that was allegedly charged during the recent teachers’ industrial action.
Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, says the arrest followed a complaint lodged by Gerald Natuhumuza Esau, a relative of the affected pupil. Natuhumuza reported to Kabale Police Station that his brother, Ezekiel Ahimbisibwe, a registered PLE candidate with index number 002/002472, had been denied access to the examination room despite having met all registration requirements.
“When the head teacher was asked what had transpired, he claimed that the boy was nowhere to be seen until police brought him to the school when the paper was almost ending,” ASP Maate said.
Police have since opened inquiries into the matter, noting that the allegations will be thoroughly investigated to establish the facts and determine the appropriate course of action.
Maate described the incident as unfortunate, stressing that it was unacceptable for any school administrator to deny a registered candidate the right to sit national examinations.
