Husband Allegedly Kills Wife, Dies in Suspected Suicide in Rukungiri

The police in Rukungiri District are investigating the deaths of a married couple, believed to have resulted from domestic conflict.

The deceased are Nduhukire Bonniconcila, aged 56, and her husband, Tumwekwase Theodoro, both residents of Kamuzinzi Village, Nyabushenyi Parish, Nyarushanje Sub-County. Preliminary reports indicate that Bonniconcila was allegedly killed by her husband, who subsequently attempted suicide by suspected poisoning.

It is alleged that the couple had ongoing domestic issues. On 15th December 2025, neighbors reported hearing a heated argument between them, during which the husband reportedly threatened to kill someone and then take his own life.

On 16th December, at around 5:00 p.m., a family friend, Arituha Peace, visited the couple’s home. She found the house open and the radio playing but received no response when calling out. Upon checking the main house and kitchen, she discovered Bonniconcila lying in a pool of blood with a neck injury. She raised the alarm, attracting nearby residents to the scene.

The area chairperson, Apollo Kamagara, was notified and reported the matter to Kiyenje Police, who subsequently informed Rukungiri Chief of Police. Upon visiting the scene, officers discovered Tumwekwase lying unconscious under a coffee tree near the home, having reportedly ingested suspected poison. He was rushed to Rwamahwa Health Center IV but was pronounced dead the following morning, 17th December 2025, at around 5:00 a.m.

According to Elly Maate, the Police Regional Officer (PRO) for Kigezi, the bodies of both individuals have been taken to Buyanja Health Center III mortuary for postmortem examination.
