Home of Kinkizi West MP’s Agent Set Ablaze in Suspected Political Attack
Police in Kanungu District have launched investigations into an arson attack in which property worth millions of shillings was destroyed.
According to Elly Maate, the Police Spokesperson for Kigezi Region, the incident was reported by Hon. James Ruugi Kaberuka, Member of Parliament for Kinkizi West.
The attack occurred in the early hours of Thursday, July 17, 2025, at around 4:00 a.m., at the home of Ndamanya Charles, also known as Iddi, in Matanda II village, Kabuga Parish, Kihihi Sub-county.
Maate said unidentified assailants reportedly smashed the front window and door glass of the house, gained access to the bedroom through the broken window, and set it on fire.
Fortunately, the victim and his wife managed to escape unharmed and raised an alarm. Nearby residents quickly responded and helped extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported, but household property was destroyed.
The victim, who is an agent of MP Kaberuka, told police that earlier that evening he received a phone call inviting him to meet a group of voters at the home of a one Nakunda. He declined, citing the late hour. A few hours later, the attack occurred.
Police were alerted, visited the scene, and documented evidence. Investigations are ongoing to identify the perpetrators and establish the motive behind the attack.
Maate confirmed that inquiries are underway and urged the public to share any information that may aid the investigation.
