Historic Moment; Tanzania Signs Agreement to host East African Crude Oil Pipeline- Video

President Yoweri Museveni has Thursday described as a historic event, today’s signing of the host Government Agreement Tanzania with its lead investor Total.  

The President flew aboard Uganda Airlines to Dar es Salam on Thursday morning, to witness the signing ceremony of the long-awaited Host Government Agreement (HGA).

The event was witnessed by President Yoweri Museveni and his host Samia Suluhu Hassan in Dar es Salaam. The president later took to twitter to appreciate the move, saying it was a historic event.

The deal with the French energy giant Total now paves way for the construction of a 1,440-km crude oil pipeline from Uganda’s Albertine region to Tanzanian seaport city of Tanga.  

The signing of the agreement in Tanzania ends close to four years of negotiation between Tanzania and Uganda from the time when Intergovernmental Agreement for the pipeline was signed.

Museveni applauded his Tanzanian counterpart H.E Samia Suluhu Hassan, for the invitation to witness the signing of the Host Government Agreement, which he says is a great step towards the construction of the oil pipeline which will benefit the entire Great Lakes Region.
