H.E Museveni commends Late Charles Engola for remarkable contributions to the country
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni expressed heartfelt admiration for the Late Hon. Col (Rtd) Charles Engola Macodwogo, acknowledging his immense impact on Uganda’s economy, politics, and security.
The President specifically lauded the former State Minister for Labour, Employment, and Industrial Relations for his unwavering commitment to guiding his constituents towards transitioning from subsistence farming to commercial agriculture. He also applauded Engola’s pivotal role in fostering peace and stability in the Lango sub-region.
Highlighting Engola’s political journey, President Museveni remarked, “He began making invaluable contributions as the LC 5 Chairman, and I witnessed his exceptional work ethic, which led me to appoint him as a Minister without hesitation.”
President Museveni shared these sentiments while paying his respects at the grave of the late compatriot Col (Rtd) Charles Engola in Awangi village-Orupu parish, Iceme sub-county, Oyam district. The President was warmly welcomed by a group of family members, led by Samuel Engola and the widow, Joyce Ayikoru Okello. Reverend Canon Georg Amoli, the Anglican Church’s representative for Oyam district, led a brief prayer during the wreath-laying ceremony.
Moreover, President Museveni commended Col (Rtd) Engola for his advocacy in teaching individuals how to generate income and elevate themselves beyond subsistence living. “He was not only a devoted NRM activist but also a teacher who showed people how to overcome poverty,” the President emphasized.
President Museveni encouraged the late Engola’s children, particularly Engola Okello Samuel Junior, who is running as the NRM flag bearer in the Oyam North Parliamentary By-election, to uphold their father’s legacy. Tragically, Charles Engola was fatally shot by his bodyguard, Wilson Sabiti, on May 2, 2023, at his residence in Kyanja-Nakawa Division, Kampala.
Furthermore, the President pledged to convene a meeting with Mr Engola’s clan groups at a later date for further discussions.
The nation mourns the loss of an extraordinary leader who dedicated his life to the betterment of Uganda. President Museveni’s homage serves as a testament to the late Charles Engola’s significant contributions and lasting impact on the country.
