‘Fukuza Kawenja’: Over 100 Arrested in Kampala Night Raid

A total of 110 suspects have been charged and detained at the Central Police Station in Kampala following the second phase of an intelligence-led operation code-named “Fukuza Kawenja.” The Uganda Police Force launched the operation on September 3, 2025.

The crackdown, which began around 11 p.m., targeted several black spots within Kampala’s Central Business District (CBD).

According to SSP Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, the operation targeted youths suspected of committing crimes against innocent people.
“The police plan to continue intelligence-led operations to eliminate criminal elements from the CBD,” Onyango said.

In a related development, Kawempe Police Division carried out a similar operation in Mpererwe, Kanyanya, Ttula, and Kidokolo between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. on the same day. The exercise followed numerous complaints of bag and phone snatching, as well as robberies in the area.

Onyango confirmed that 32 suspects were arrested and detained at Kawempe Police Station pending screening. Police also recovered marijuana and other narcotics during the operation.
“The operation was deemed successful, and the police intend to continue such efforts to combat criminality,” Onyango added.
