Four Arrested in Police Crackdown on Highway Thuggery in Rubanda
The territorial Police in Rubanda District have arrested four suspected criminals believed to be behind a series of thefts and robberies targeting trucks in transit along the Kabale–Kisoro highway.
The arrests followed an intelligence-led joint operation conducted by the Police and the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) on the night of Wednesday, October 15, 2025.
According to ASP Elly Maate the PRO Kigezi Region, the operation was commanded by the District Police Commander (DPC), SP Tumwebaze J.B., as part of a wider regional strategy to eliminate thuggery across the Kigezi Sub-region.
The suspects have been identified as: Turyamureba Kenneth, 31 years old, Muhwezi Titus, 26 years old, Tayebwa John, 32 years old, and Twakire Agnes, 18 years old.
The operation, which was concentrated in the Hamurwa area, led to the recovery of a substantial quantity of marijuana allegedly used by the suspects before engaging in criminal acts along the highway.
The four are currently being detained at Rubanda Central Police Station (CPS) as investigations into their case continue. Police say that once inquiries are complete, the suspects will be arraigned before the court to face thecharges accordingly.
