Five Arrested Over Kidnap and Murder of Six-Year-Old Girl in Bugiri

Police in Busoga East Region have arrested five people in connection with the kidnapping and brutal murder of a six-year-old girl in Bugiri District.

Regional Police Spokesperson ASP Michael Kasadha identified the suspects as Waiswa Allan, Baliraine Geoffrey, Osogoli Umar, Mulondo Isaac, and a woman identified as Phiona, who were arrested following an intelligence-led operation by a joint security team.

The victim, Taaka Loy, was kidnapped on November 1, 2025, at around 6:00 p.m. from Buwembula Village, Kayogera Parish, Muterere Sub-county in Bugiri District. According to Kasadha, the kidnappers later demanded a ransom of UGX 50 million from Okello Moses alias Otori, the caretaker of the child.

It has since been established that Waiswa Allan, the prime suspect, is a nephew of Okello. The ransom demand continued until the suspects were apprehended earlier today.

In a shocking confession, Waiswa reportedly admitted to killing the child and burying her behind his house in a potato garden.

A team led by SSP Kyeyune Edrisa, the Regional Police Commander, visited the scene, where the decomposing body of the child was exhumed. Police also recovered exhibits believed to be of evidential value. The body has been taken to Bugiri Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examination.

“This is a heartbreaking and deeply disturbing incident. We have five suspects in custody, and further investigations are underway to establish all the facts and ensure justice for the victim,” ASP Kasadha said.

Police have condemned the act and urged the public to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and cooperate with law enforcement to prevent similar tragedies.
