The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate, Hon. Nathan James Nandala Mafabi, held a series of campaign rallies across Busia District on Thursday, October 16, 2025, pledging to improve household incomes, boost small businesses, and enhance infrastructure development if elected president.
Nandala Mafabi entered Busia District at around 1:15 p.m. through Buteba Sub-county from Tororo District and arrived in Busia Municipality shortly after, at about 1:20 p.m.
He was accompanied by several FDC leaders and aspirants, including Hon. Nabulindo Kwoba (aspirant, Busia District Woman MP), Hon. Okumu Justus Wesonga (aspirant, Samia Bugwe South), Hon. Ekanya Geoffrey (aspirant, Tororo North), Hon. Ssasaga Johny Isaiah (aspirant, Budadiri North), and Hon. Amin Sadik (incumbent and aspirant Mayor, Busia Municipality), among others.
During his campaign trail, Nandala Mafabi addressed supporters at Kayola Market, Mugungu, Old Taxi Park in Busia Municipality, and Bukobe Trading Centre in Buyanga Sub-county. He later proceeded to Mundidi, Harambe, and Tayari Trading Centres in Busime Sub-county, before holding rallies at Majanji Trading Centre in Majanji Sub-county and Lumino Town in Lumino Town Council.
In his campaign speeches, the FDC presidential candidate emphasised that his mission is to uplift the income status of Ugandans, especially those in rural areas.
He pledged to support the boda boda industry by reducing the cost of motorcycle loans to UGX 2 million, payable in instalments of UGX 400,000 annually over five years.
Nandala Mafabi also promised to harmonise and increase teachers’ salaries, as well as ensure that all teachers receive free accommodation regardless of where they serve. He further committed to upgrading and tarmacking rural roads in Busia and other districts to facilitate trade and mobility.
The FDC candidate accused the current government of embezzling about UGX 10 trillion annually, totalling UGX 50 trillion over five years, and said he would redirect such funds to community development.
He proposed giving UGX 100 million to every village annually, translating to UGX 500 million over a five-year term, to support local development projects and fight poverty.
Additionally, Nandala Mafabi vowed to reduce taxes on goods, promote small-scale enterprises, and strengthen agricultural productivity to improve livelihoods.
The FDC candidate concluded his rallies at around 6:30 p.m. before exiting the district via the Busia–Tororo Road.
Authorities reported that the campaign activities were peaceful, with no major incidents recorded. The general situation in Busia remained calm and normal, with security agencies continuing to monitor the political environment.
