ERA has scheduled a public hearing ahead of determining the 2026 power tariff
As the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) prepares to make final decisions on the electricity tariffs that will take effect in 2026, it has organized a public hearing to ensure that the public participates in the planning process.
The hearing is intended to give citizens an opportunity to share their views on the current tariffs and their expectations for the proposed new tariffs.
This will help ensure that, by the time ERA makes its final decision, the public is fully informed, aligned with the process, and able to follow how the decisions were reached.
The engagement is also meant to address many long-standing questions from the public, especially at a time when some areas of the country are experiencing power-supply challenges.
Many people have raised concerns about inconsistencies attributed to the new power distributor, often without clear information about the source of these challenges or the steps being taken to resolve them.
According to Amina Namuddu, the spokesperson for the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA), the public hearing will feature presentations from key electricity companies, including the Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited (UEGCL), the Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL), and the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL).
These companies will present their budget proposals for the year, giving the public an opportunity to provide input before ERA makes its final decision.
Amina appealed to the public to actively participate in the hearing so they can understand what is happening regarding electricity tariffs and appreciate the value of their payments. She emphasized that public feedback is highly valued and plays an important role in the tariff decision-making process.
The hearing will take place at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala, starting at 9:00a.m, and attendance is free of charge.
