Eight Arrested in Busoga Robbery Ring, Guns and Stolen Items Recovered
Police in Kamuli have arrested eight people on charges of aggravated robbery following an intelligence-led operation conducted on March 22, 2025. During the operation, two guns, two magazines, and other suspected stolen items were recovered.
The suspects have been identified as Wambi Fred, Mugaya Grace alias Lwambaaga Jordan, Kwagala Susan, Mukasa Godfrey, Wamubiligwe Henry, Basalirwa Stephen, Ayazika Godfrey, and Aziz Boyi Sosi Pater.
ASP Kasadha Michael, the Regional Spokesperson for Busoga North, stated that the suspects are allegedly part of criminal gangs involved in the recent wave of aggravated robberies across the Busoga sub-region.
Initial findings indicate that on March 20, 2025, at around 10:00 a.m., Wambi was seen transporting items suspected to be firearms from Namwendwa to Bukolobe Cell, Kasaigo Ward, Northern Division in Kamuli Municipality.
According to intelligence reports, on March 21, 2025, he moved the suspected items to his brother’s residence in Bugweri District. The operation, which started in Kamuli, ended in Bugweri, where Wambi was being harbored by his brother.
He was arrested alongside his associates, and upon search, the police recovered two guns, two magazines, and ammunition.
Other recovered items include two motor vehicles— a Land Cruiser (Reg. No. UAZ 656B) and a Toyota Hiace taxi (Reg. No. UDR 580P)— as well as motor vehicle number plates, two television sets, and four new mattresses.
Kasadha stated that further investigations are ongoing, and a serious manhunt is underway to arrest more suspects.
He commended community members for cooperating with the police, especially in sharing information that led to the successful operation.
