Drunk Man kills his mother over food

The Police in Gulu City East Division, have arrested and are currently holding a suspect, Okane Dickson, aged 20 years, in connection with the tragic murder of his mother, Adoch Betty, a 48-year-old widow and a resident of Bar Cell in Pece Laroo Division, Gulu City.

Preliminary information gathered by the Police reveals that on October 29, 2023, at 11:30 am, the suspect returned home drunk and hungry after a visit to a local bar. He requested his now-deceased mother to prepare a meal for him. However, when she asked him to wait, Okane persisted and attempted to serve himself.

When his mother tried to stop him, he became aggressive, picking an axe and striking her on the head three times. She was rushed to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital in an unconscious state, but she succumbed to her injuries.

ASP Ongom David Mudong, the PRO for Aswa West Region, told reporters that the Police responded to the incident, securing the murder weapon (an axe), arresting the suspect, and taking statements from pertinent witnesses.

Meanwhile, the deceased’s body remains at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital, pending a postmortem examination as further investigations are underway.

He condemned the increasing incidents of homicides stemming from alcohol and drug abuse. Noting that as a preventive measure, rigorous enforcement strategies will be prioritized to combat this issue, ensuring thorough investigations and holding accountable those found responsible for their actions under the full extent of the law.
