Driver shot, injured while transporting suspected stolen cattle

The police in Kampala Metropolitan South in collaboration with the Flying Squad Unit have intercepted a motor vehicle Reg No. UAZ 801Y Land Cruiser on Thursday morning, transporting two suspected stolen cows.

Luke Owoyesigyire the Deputy PRO KMP says the team acted on a tip after they were alerted that a suspect transporting livestock for sale to abattoirs in Kyengera and Natete.

He says that in the early hours of the morning at Kutano Nakawuka Road in Rubaga Division, the team engaged the vehicle. The driver attempted to evade the checkpoint, prompting officers to deflate the vehicle’s tyres. The suspect Mugema Ismah (32), now under police custody, sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical attention at Mulago Hospital.

Upon inspection of the vehicle, two live cows were discovered in the back seat and trunk, securely tied.

Owoyesigyire told media that the ongoing investigation aims to determine the origin of the stolen cattle, with suspicions pointing towards Matuga. Authorities urge anyone with information on stolen cows to come forward to the Natete Police station, where the matter is under thorough investigations.
