Deputy Lord Mayor Nyanjura, Four Others Arrested in Kampala Over Protest
Police in Kampala have arrested five suspects, including Deputy Lord Mayor Nyanjura Doreen, on allegations of inciting violence. The group was part of a demonstration demanding the release of Dr. Kizza Besigye and other political prisoners.
SSP Patrick Onyango, the PRO of Kampala Metropolitan Police, identified the other suspects as Ingrid Turinawe, Kabayiza Fiona, Nongozi Faridah, and Namubiru Shadia.
According to Onyango, the group was marching from Mini Price towards Arua Park when police intercepted them at William Street.
Others in the group fled the scene upon seeing the police. The suspects are currently being held at CPS Kampala, charged with inciting violence, and their statements have been recorded pending their court appearance.
