Commonwealth Finance Ministers to Meet in Washington, D.C. to Discuss Emerging Economic Challenges
Government ministers and senior officials from across the Commonwealth will convene in person for the Commonwealth Finance Ministers Meeting (CFMM) on Monday, 13 October 2025, in Washington, D.C. The meeting will take place on the sidelines of the Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
This year’s CFMM will focus on the theme “Strengthening Economic Resilience Amidst the International Policy Shift.” Discussions will centre on strategies to bolster economic resilience through coordinated fiscal policies, sustainable public investments, essential structural reforms, and enhanced private sector participation.
With member countries facing multiple headwinds — including inflationary pressures, rising debt vulnerabilities, geopolitical tensions, and the accelerating green and digital transitions — the meeting will provide a platform for ministers to exchange experiences, share innovative approaches, and identify solutions to safeguard economic stability, promote inclusive growth, and ensure long-term fiscal sustainability.
During the meeting, finance ministers will:
- Examine key drivers of sustainable economic resilience in Commonwealth member states amid global policy shifts and protectionist trends;
- Explore opportunities and propose actionable recommendations to strengthen resilience in member countries, particularly in small states and developing economies; and
- Endorse key initiatives for the Commonwealth Secretariat to develop or expand, including knowledge-sharing products, technical assistance, capacity-building, and advocacy to support members in navigating emerging geoeconomic and policy challenges.
