Chief of Defence Forces pays tribute to fallen soldier, Brig Gen Kiggundu
The Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has honored the memory of the late Deputy Commander of UPDF – Air Force, Brigadier General Stephen Kiggundu, describing him as an excellent professional who served his country with steadfast dedication and played an important role in restoring and upholding peace and security in Uganda.
Major General Leopold Kyanda delivered a heartfelt tribute during the burial ceremony of Brigadier General Kiggundu, which took place on April 4th, 2024, at his ancestral home in Kijambura Cell, Nyangahya Division, Kikwanana Ward, Masindi District.
Brigadier General Kiggundu passed away on March 31st, 2024, at his official residence in Entebbe.
“The UPDF is saddened by the loss of such a senior and professional officer whose input was still much needed. We, therefore, join the family, relatives and friends at this most difficult time to mourn the fallen comrade whom we shall always remember,” said Maj Gen Kyanda.
Addressing the gathering, Major General Kyanda recounted Brigadier General Kiggundu’s distinguished career, noting his entry into the forces on July 27th, 1999, as a skilled and disciplined pilot committed to service.
He rose through the ranks, attaining the position of 2nd Lieutenant on May 29th, 2002, and continued to serve in various capacities until his promotion to the rank of Brigadier General in 2022, a position he held until his untimely demise.
Brigadier General David Gonyi, representing the Commander of the Air Force, expressed the army’s profound sorrow over the loss of Brigadier General Kiggundu, affirming that his memory will endure in the hearts and minds of all who knew him.
Honorable Dr. Asiimwe Florence, the Woman MP for Masindi District, extended condolences to the family, lauding Brigadier General Kiggundu as a diligent individual who led a life of patriotism.
The late Brigadier General Stephen Kiggundu was honored with an 11-gun salute.
The solemn ceremony was attended by high-ranking Generals, Senior Officers of the UPDF, representatives from the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs, clergy, politicians, and other dignitaries.
