Businessman Remanded for Aggravated Defilement of 13 year old Pupil

A 43 year old businessman identified as Jjingo Muhammad, resident of Mbulamuti Town Council, in Kamuli district, has been charged to court with the alleged Aggravated Defilement of a 13 year old, primary school pupil.

Jjingo was arrested by the police in Kamuli and charged to court following the incident reported by the victim’s mother on May 31st 2024.

According to SCP Enanga Fred the Police Spokesperson, reports indicate that the victim’s mother had left her daughter at home and travelled to Kampala for a business trip. Upon her return on May 31, 2024, the mother found her daughter in possession of Ugx 10,000 (Ten thousand shillings), which she had not left with her.

Upon interrogation, the girl revealed to the mother that the money was given to her by the suspect, who has been defiling her from his home. She also reported that the suspect caused her to swallow emergency contraceptive pills, to avoid getting pregnant. The case was immediately reported to the police, and the suspect was arrested and detained at the Kamuli Central Police Station (CPS) for investigation.

Enanga told the media in Kampala on Tuesday, that the police detectives visited the scene of the crime, documented it, and recorded relevant statements from witnesses. The suspect was produced before the Kamuli Magistrate’s Court on June 7, 2024, and has since been remanded in custody, as the investigation continues.

“We strongly condemn such acts of sexual violence against the girl child. The incident shows that the threats and dangers, that girls face before persons who are supposed to be their guardians,” said Enanga. 

He further urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected cases of child abuse or exploitation to the nearest police station immediately. Enanga further guided that the protection of children is a paramount concern, and the community’s cooperation is essential in combating such crimes.
